Doug Richards
Born in Oklahoma and raised near Philadelphia, Doug Richards’ early career hopscotched from Missouri to Mississippi to Nebraska to Washington DC. In DC, he covered Capitol Hill for TV stations across the country. In 1986, WAGA-TV hired him in Atlanta.
In 2003, Doug was embedded with the US Army’s Third Infantry Division and covered the invasion of Iraq. Doug
has extensively covered national and local politics, scandals, triumphs and tragedies. He won his first Emmy while producing a nine-part series on the Georgia State Prison after spending two nights there in a cell.
A franchise called Closer Look began in late 1995. From then until 2001, Doug stretched away from daily deadlines and examined a broad range of stories, oddities and characters, developing those stories into longer-format pieces. He returned to his roots, covering breaking news again exclusively starting in 2001.
Doug concluded his news career much the way it began: covering presidential visits, hurricanes from Andrew to Katrina, trials, fires and all measure of human triumph and suffering. Doug left the news business in 2007 to devote himself full-time to TomorrowVision Media.
